Busselton forced to hold election

Posted November 7, 2008 10:00:00

The Shire of Busselton will be forced to hold an extraordinary election to replace three retiring councillors, despite an attempt to permanently reduce their numbers.

The council has been conducting a review to reduce the number of elected members from 13 to 11.

Public consultation on the idea closed this week, with a total of three submissions supporting the move.

However, the shire has since been informed by the WA Electoral Commission that an extraordinary election must be held later this month.

The review will now be suspended until next year, when seven councillors' positions come up for re-election.
