Police close to making arrest on robberies

Posted November 13, 2008 13:00:00

Victoria Police believe an armed bandit who robbed an Essendon hotel in June, committed a similar robbery 10 years ago.

A masked man threatened two staff at the Cross Keys Hotel with a sawn-off shot gun, before tying them up and stealing a large amount of cash.

Detective Sergeant Andrew Stamper says it is believe the crime is linked to an armed robbery at a Kealba Views Hotel in 1998.

In that incident staff were terrorised by two men.

"One armed with a fire arm and one with an iron bar," he said.

"Staff members were tied up and again a significant amount of cash was stolen."

A woman named Nicole, who wanted to keep her identity secret, was tied up an threatened in the June robbery.

She has not been able to work since.

"I still have nightmares, I am scared to be alone at night. I get in my car and I check in the back of my car because I think this guy is coming for me."

Police have released security footage of the people they are looking and say they are close to making an arrest.
