Rain eases Sun Coast bushfire risk

Posted November 21, 2008 14:47:00

Queensland Fire and Rescue says persistent rain this week has eased the threat of bushfires on the Sunshine Coast this summer.

Area director of rural operations Gary Seaman says the wet weather has minimised the risk of fires on the coast.

"Certainly the wet weather we've had over the last week and with the anticipation of more rain coming - that's quelled the fire danger for this year anyway," he said.

"Historically in Queensland we get the storm season, that'll certainly put an end, or certainly quell the fire season."
