Adelaide United and Canberra United played out a scoreless draw in their round five W-League match at McKellar Park in Canberra on Saturday.

Canberra had four more attempts on goal than the Reds, but neither team looked dangerous. Canberra was busier with the fouls too, recording 11 to Adelaide's six.

Canberra's Thea Slayter was also sent off for a studs-up tackle in the 10th minute.

The 0-0 result keeps the two teams in equal third spot on the ladder with one more match to be played on Sunday.

In today's second fixture the Queensland Roar defeated Melbourne Victory 2-0 at Ballymore in Brisbane.

A 33rd-minute goal to the Roar's Courtney Beutel and another to Tameka Butt 26 minutes later put the game firmly out of the Victory's reach.

The win keeps Queensland at the top of the table with Melbourne cemented in fifth position.

Meanwhile the contest between Sydney FC and the Central Coast Mariners at Campbelltown Stadium was a similar affair with Sydney downing the Mariners 2-0.

Central Coast could not take a trick despite 16 attempts at goal with Sydney's Leena Khamis and Lisa Gilbert scoring in the 33rd and 38th minute respectively.

Sydney remains in second position with the Mariners dwelling in fifth.
