QCOSS makes budget pitch to Govt

Posted November 26, 2008 09:07:00

The Queensland Council of Social Service (QCOSS) says the State Government should use its next budget to target child protection, community services and access to justice.

The Council is presenting the Government with its annual budget submission at a launch in Brisbane today.

QCOSS director Jill Lang says the global financial crisis makes some funding requests more important than ever.

"We'll be working with people who will be finding it tough to maintain their housing, to support their kids in preschool or school and to really maintain those stable family relationships which can become so shaky in times like these," she said.

She says there needs to be a broad based social inclusion agenda.

"We think the state does do some good sort of one-off projects here and there," she said.

"There's lots of good examples of good practice around [and] the community sector itself does lots of good things.

"But we don't have a statewide broadly based social inclusion agenda that really addresses the multiple impactors in people's lives."
