Quilpie experiencing revival

Posted November 26, 2008 14:19:00

A south-west Queensland mayor says bush towns may be on the verge of a revival, with more people looking to move to rural communities.

Quilpie Mayor David Edwards says there are currently no homes for sale or rent in the small town - but a list of people who are eager to move to the region.

He says that is a far cry from a few years ago when more than 30 Quilpie homes were on the market and the town was shrinking.

"Some people have come back and others are here - there's next to nil unemployment within our community," he said.

"I do think things are starting to turn around - the south-east corner and coastal areas of the state are completely and utterly over-populated and I think people are looking for a laid-back lifestyle, providing there are employment opportunities."
