Fewer NT women dying from cervical cancer

Posted November 26, 2008 17:30:00

A new report shows death rates from cervical cancer have fallen dramatically among Northern Territory women.

The NT Health Department's report shows there was a 64% decline among non-Indigenous women between 1991 and 2005 and a 92% drop for Indigenous women.

The Department says that's because more women are having cervical screening and the figures also reflect effective follow-up treatment for abnormalities.
