Staff to meet at threatened child care centres

Posted November 27, 2008 10:11:00

The future of four ABC Learning centres in Tasmania is uncertain, as receivers conduct reviews of centres across the country.

Three long day centres at Devonport, Cambridge and Margate, and one outside school hours centre at West Hobart, are among those being reviewed.

David O'Byrne from the union representing child care workers, says they're keen to sit down with the receivers to see how the centres can be maintained.

He says the union will also work to ensure continuity of employment for about 70 workers.

"We'll be meeting with our members today across the four services in Tasmania, talking to them about their options and how they can move forward," Mr O'Byrne said.

"Ensuring that those workers support the families and the families support the workers and provide some certainty post christmas," he said.
