Entrepreneur program launched in Cowra

Posted November 27, 2008 11:30:00

A program aimed at growing existing businesses and creating more jobs will be launched in Cowra tonight.

The Cowra Entrepreneur Program is being launched by the founder of Budget Rent a Car, Bob Ansett.

Lauren Magid from the Cowra council says up to 25 businesses will be part of the program's inaugural intake.

She says it is designed to help grow the shire's economy.

"Council is still focusing on attracting new businesses to Cowra, but the entrepreneur program itself is based on economic gardening," she said.

"That aims to strengthen and grow existing businesses, generating additional jobs and more higher paying jobs, which in turn will strengthen the local economy."

Ms Magid says the program is attracting international attention.

"Council is only the second council in Australia to take on a program like this. Shellharbour was the first," she said.

"But the principles of economic gardening have been utilised quite widely, particularly in the United States.

"We're told that there are a number of people in the States who'll be keeping a close eye on our program to see how it all goes."
