Pub charity through the roof for Flying Doctor

Posted November 27, 2008 12:32:00

A tradition in a south-west Queensland pub has reaped thousands of dollars in donations for the Flying Doctor.

The Royal Mail Hotel in Hungerford has been encouraging patrons to donate to the Flying Doctor for several years - by throwing notes to the pub's ceiling.

Publican Peter Young says they've just counted up this year's takings and patrons have once again shown their generosity.

"People just throw money up onto the roof for the Flying Doctors and most years it's around $1,000 for the year and the best year if was $5,900," he said.

"We got $2,700 off it this year, so there's still a few very generous people around. You never know when you'll need the Flying Doctor out here."
