Water commission pushes for recycled water rollout

Posted November 27, 2008 16:12:00

The National Water Commission has released a statement praising the benefits of purified recycled water and urging governments to gain the public's confidence.

The statement comes only a day after Queensland Premier Anna Bligh announced that recycled water will be pumped into south-east Queensland dams when combined levels reach 40 per cent, not early next year as originally planned.

It said recycling is a viable option for hardening water supplies so it can meet the demands of population growth and withstand climate change.

The Commission said decisions made now about recycling will affect water supplies for decades.
