The family of convicted murderer Gordon Wood say they will fight to prove his innocence.

Wood acknowledged his supporters when he was led into the dock today for a sentencing hearing.

The public gallery was full and the 45-year-old, who has spent a week in jail after being found guilty of the murder of model Caroline Byrne, took notes.

Prosecutor Mark Tedeschi said Wood profited from Ms Byrne's death by accepting money for doing an interview on The Witness Program.

Defence barrister Winston Terracini said Wood has shown no remorse because he maintains his innocence.

Wood will be sentenced next Wednesday, which is also his birthday.

Outside court his sister Jacqueline Schmidt said a website will be set up with information to let people make up their own mind about his innocence.
