Man charged over schoolies smash

A man has been charged over a traffic accident during schoolies celebrations on the Queensland Gold Coast last night.

Police say there was a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of the Gold Coast Highway and Fern Street at Surfers Paradise shortly before 11:00pm yesterday.

A 17-year-old man travelling in the tray of a utility suffered a fractured back in the accident.

He is in a stable condition in the Gold Coast Hospital.

A 19-year-old man faces two charges over the accident.
