Mystery boat near Shark Bay

Police and Customs are searching for a boat with up to 20 people spotted near Shark Bay. (ABC TV: )

A police and customs search has been launched off the WA coast to find a boat which is believed to be carrying up to 20 people.

A member of the public reported seeing the boat just off False Entrance, near Shark Bay, early this afternoon.

A local ranger was sent and confirmed numbers on the boat.

Geraldton police say a number of people swam ashore, but later returned to the boat and motored north.
