The ACT Government will begin a nation-wide search for an expert to head its new Department of Environment, Climate Change and Water when it advertises the position this weekend.

Environment Minister Simon Corbell says over the past two weeks the Government has been putting in place the administrative arrangements to establish the new department.

He says funding arrangements are being discussed ahead of the second appropriation bill to be debated in the Assembly within the fortnight.

Mr Corbell says the department's first task will be to get the solar feed-in tariff up and running.

"We are now moving rapidly to make sure that the new feed-in tariff that will allow people to be paid a positive rate for the solar power or renewable energy that they produce in their own homes is up and running by the first of March," he said.
