Freight train derailed in north Qld

A freight train has derailed near Charters Towers in north Queensland.

A Queensland Rail spokesman says the the engine of the west-bound train came off the tracks shortly after 6:00am AEST today near Homestead, on the Townsville to Mount Isa line.

No-one has been injured.

Police are travelling to the scene and the line is closed.

They say there will be a full investigation.
