Govt to investigate plea for Flametree protection

Posted November 28, 2008 12:23:00

A Whitsunday community group says it is confident the Queensland Government will protect its area from industrial development.

An application is currently before the Whitsunday Regional Council to use about 0.8 hectares of land at Flametree, which is adjacent to the Conway National Park, as an industrial estate.

Resident Marita Lean flew to Brisbane last month to hand deliver a letter to the Premier about the issue, and she has now received a letter back saying the Government will investigate.

"It was very good to get a letter from them, so they're aware of it and they are researching it," she said.

"The letter says that they are looking into it and they will respond directly, so I would have to say in the next couple of weeks, just before Christmas. So hopefully we'll all have a nice little Christmas present."
