Rex Hunt to fight road rage charges

Posted November 28, 2008 13:09:00

Media personality Rex Hunt will fight charges he assaulted a Melbourne cyclist in an alleged road rage attack.

Hunt, 59, was not in court for today's hearing on charges he recklessly caused serious injury and unlawfully assaulted Rodney Andonopoulos.

Hunt's lawyer Michael Tovey QC indicated to the Melbourne Magistrates Court that Hunt would fight the charges.

"I simply want it to be known this matter will certainly proceed as a contested hearing," Mr Tovey said.

It is alleged Hunt assaulted the cyclist on the way to a football match in August.

Outside court, Mr Tovey said it would be inappropriate for him to comment further on the matter.

The case will proceed as a contested hearing on January 13.

Hunt is a former Australian rules football player who has also worked as a football commentator and hosted TV fishing programs.
