Construction work is expected to start on Shepparton's new Latrobe University campus in March.
The $9.5 million campus has been funded by the state and federal governments, the university and the council.
The design of the building will reflect aspects of the Goulburn Valley such as its Indigenous history, fruit growing and irrigation.
Campus executive director Liz Lavender says temporary fencing has been put up in preparation for the works.
"The fences have gone around the construction site, some heavy machinery has been moved in there and some stripping has taken place of those old buildings and they will be knocked down very, very shortly, before Christmas," she said.
The campus is expected to be open in the middle of 2010.
