Kelly urged to meet over super tip move

Posted November 28, 2008 14:02:00

Relocation of a proposed super tip on the New South Wales far south coast has run into more trouble.

The Bega Valley Shire Council and Wolumla Residents Action Group are seeking talks with Lands Minister Tony Kelly, after Forests Minister Ian Macdonald refused to meet them.

The Member for Bega, Andrew Constance, says he is disappointed that other sites have not been considered, such as Crown land or State Forests.

He says he will work with the community and the council to get an acceptable outcome for local residents.

"It's typical of the State Government they're not willing to help a local community out with a issue such as Wolumla tip," he said.

"It's disappointing the Forestry Minister's not willing to meet with the Bega Valley Shire Council and Wolumla Residents Action Group to discuss options for relocation of the proposed waste facility."
