Schoolies' celebrations wind down

Posted November 28, 2008 15:15:00

Police will begin to scale down operations today as school leavers start making their way back to Perth.

About 6,000 school leavers are expected to head home today after celebrating in south-west Western Australia.

Celebrations this year were held at the leavers' zone in Dunsborough and police say, overall, the schoolies were well behaved.

A number of people have been charged with a range of offences including sexual assault, disorderly conduct and antisocial behaviour since official celebrations started on Monday.

Senior Constable Mick Luplau says police will be conducting traffic stops today.

"There's going to be a lot more traffic on the roads so everyone needs to take care," he said.

Additional officers will remain in the south-west over the weekend.
