Threatened pipeline workers don't want security: AWU

The Australian Workers Union says north-south pipeline workers do not want extra security, despite threats being made against them.

The controversial pipe from the Goulburn River to Melbourne is fiercely opposed by farmers and communities in northern Victoria.

A woman has been charged after allegedly driving her car at a worker and a man has been charged for alleged threats with an iron bar.

Despite that, the AWU state secretary, Cesar Melham, says workers feel comfortable about their security.

"At this stage we're not looking at increasing security, we don't want to turn the place into a Fort Knox, because people won't be able to go to work without having security," he said.

"On the other hand, I think there's been a great reception from the locals to respect the workers and their machineries."
