Church to respond to Archbishop's grievances

Posted November 30, 2008 12:08:00

Parishioners at a South Brisbane church are today expected to approve a response to claims it is not in communion with the Roman Catholic Church.

Brisbane's Catholic Archbishop John Bathersby says St Mary's has until tomorrow to change its practices or leave the Catholic Church.

St Mary's spokesman Father Peter Kennedy says they have prepared a letter responding to all of the issues raised by the Archbishop.

Father Kennedy says a special service will be held with the local Indigenous community this afternoon, where parishioners will be asked to support the letter.

"We would hope that the vast majority of people will endorse it," he said.

"Already we've had positive feedback from them because they've had it in their hands for the past couple of weeks, and on the whole we have a feeling that people are very positive about it."
