Cattle sale may have set new record

Posted December 1, 2008 09:00:00

A new national sale record for brahman cattle may have been set in north-west Queensland.

More than $1 million worth of cattle were sold yesterday at the annual Elrose Brahman Sale at Cloncurry.

Auctioneer Ken McCaffrey says while buyer numbers were down, there were some excellent results.

"Top price in fact was lot number one, he was an Elrose grey brahman herd bull and he sold for $42,000 - and to my knowledge that's a new breed record for an Australian brahman herd bull," he said.
