Police contacted over possible escapee surrender

Posted December 1, 2008 13:34:00

Gold Coast police say they have been approached about the possible surrender of an escaped prisoner.

Madison Jo Randell, 18, broke away from a police escort at the Gold Coast Hospital on Thursday night and police suspect he has been involved in two armed robberies over the weekend.

Superintendent Jim Keogh says a person contacted police on Friday, but there has been no further approach.

He says police sighted a stolen car used in the robberies at Nerang late yesterday.

"At this stage, our search is concentrating on the western suburbs of the Gold Coast, it will be a concentrated effort by the police, they are starting to go through the inquiries looking at friends, relatives and associates of the offenders," he said.
