Port's number one draft pick: Hamish Hartlett

Port's number one draft pick: Hamish Hartlett (ABC news)

Port Adelaide's number one draft pick Hamish Hartlett has set himself a short-term goal of just getting through preseason training.

Hartlett says he was very happy to be picked up by a South Australian club in Saturday's national draft.

He says he expects to start next season in the SANFL.

"I've only played seven games of league footy out at West Adelaide and I don't think I've strung more than two or three together with state commitments and those sorts of things," he said.

"So after the preseason, if I come through West Adelaide that would be great and string a few good performances there and we'll see what happens."

Hartlett admits his family are Adelaide supporters and they followed the exploits of former star Tony Modra closely.

"[We were] big Crows supporters back in the day when Mods was running around," he said.

"He was my idol back in junior footy and I used to get number six guernsey at Edwardstown year after year, but I'm sure we can jump onto another bandwagon."
