People involved in violent incidents in Darwin's CBD should be black-listed from entering pubs and clubs, according to the Australian Hotels Association.

The level of violence and fighting in Darwin's main party district - Mitchell Street - is an ongoing problem in the Northern Territory's capital.

The Association wants late-night venues on the nightclub strip to be linked through a central database that would store the details of people who are banned from entry.

Its Northern Territory president Mick Burns said the system would require all patrons to provide a form of photo I-D to get into licensed venues.

"We want to make sure we put a ban in place and you're not just banned from a particular licensed premise," he said.

"We're calling on government to give us some legislative support to protect members.

"And we want to actually have it that they are banned from all licensed premises in the CBD."

He said he wants trouble-makers banned from three to 12 months.
