A man has been convicted and fined $400 for tailgating a woman in a road rage incident in Darwin.

The Darwin Magistrates Court heard Daniel Heinz tailgated a woman in his car along East Point Road in November last year.

He then drove up alongside the woman, stopped and had an altercation with her.

The 47-year-old pleaded guilty this morning to driving without due care.

Magistrate Sue Oliver said she was concerned Territory drivers considered the speed limit as the speed minimum and urged drivers to take a ''serious look'' at their actions.
