Possum put down after being set on fire

Posted December 2, 2008 08:17:00

Police are investigating a case of animal cruelty after a possum was found burnt alive in the New South Wales central west last month.

Members of an animal rescue organisation were called to a park in William Street at Bathurst on November 18 after receiving reports a possum was being harassed.

They arrived to find a possum had been set on fire.

The animal was rescued and taken to a nearby vet, where it had to be put down because of its injuries.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
