A union representing childcare workers is calling on the major banks to financially support the troubled ABC Learning.

The receivers for the failed company say more than 650 centres across the country will stay open next year.

The receivers are expected to announce the future of the remaining 386 tomorrow.

Rebecca Reilly, executive vice-president of the NSW branch of the LHMU, says the banks also have a responsibility.

"We believe that, as the biggest creditor of ABC childcare centres, the banks have the power to determine the future of the company's childcare centres," she said.

"We're actually calling on the banks now to support Australian communities by ensuring all ABC workers have a secure future and all children have a guaranteed childcare place for next year."
