Water begins flowing into Cloncurry dam

Posted December 2, 2008 09:48:00

The Mayor of Cloncurry, in north-west Queensland, says water has started flowing from Chinaman Creek into the town's dam for the first time in two years.

The town has been coping with a severe water shortage and requires regular deliveries of water to be carted in by rail from Mount Isa.

Cloncurry Mayor Andrew Daniels says water is also starting to flow from upstream after good rain over the weekend.

But he says water will still need to be railed in for at least another week.

"We're still going to keep utilising that until the water's cleaned up a bit," he said.

"[The rain] was a big relief, it put a bit of water in the dam. It's about 25 per cent or something at the moment."
