Arson suspected in house fire

Tasmanian police have questioned a person over an arson attack in the state's north.

Police say a bedroom was set alight in a house in Harris Crescent, George Town, about 9:00 pm yesterday.

The female resident managed to escape.

The kitchen and laundry were destroyed and the rest of the house was extensively damaged by smoke.

Forensics police and fire investigators remain at the scene.

The damage bill is estimated at $80,000.
