For people who were feeling hotter and more bothered than normal in Darwin last month, here's the reason why.

The city's mean temperature for November was 30.2 degrees celsius, which is hotter than any month since December 1991 and the fourth hottest month on record.

There were a record number of hot days for November, with nine days of 35 degrees or more.

The Weather Bureau's Sam Cleland says the nights didn't get any better.

"There were also a lot of hot nights. There were only five nights for the month that got below 25 degrees that's also a record number of warm nights", he said.

Unusual weather in Central Australia also saw several records broken last month.

New rainfall records were set at Undoolya, Kulgera, Curtin Springs, Wallace Rockhole and Palm Valley.

Alice Springs Airport had its highest recorded rainfall ever for November.

It reached 45 degrees in Elliot on November 23, the town's hottest November day in 18 years.
