Court dismisses fatal road crash charges

Posted December 2, 2008 11:50:00

Charges against a man accused of killing two friends in a car crash two years ago near Millmerran, in southern Queensland, have been dismissed.

Alexander John Corlis was charged with dangerous operation of a vehicle causing the deaths of Marcus MacDonald and Jamie McNulty and the injuries of of Andrew Newell - they were travelling to Toowoomba to play in an under-19 rugby grand final.

But Corlis' lawyer argued it was a tyre blow-out and not high-speed which lead to his client losing control and crashing the car.

Acting judge Brian Devereaux agreed the case should not be put to a jury and the charges were dismissed.
