Clubs unhappy with lost race meets

Posted December 2, 2008 12:00:00

Clubs in the Brisbane Valley are among the hardest hit in Queensland Racing's shake-up of country meetings.

From July, the Esk Jockey Club and Kilcoy Racing Club lose three races apiece, which means they will each only hold two races a year.

Esk president Iain Truman says he is bitterly disappointed that the culling has been so severe.

"We have more people at our racing meetings, every race meeting, than they do at their Friday or Saturday races ... at Eagle Farm," he said.

"It's a joke and it's all got to do with the TAB and punting and I think it's very, very sad that the atmosphere and the spirit of racing is suffering as a result of gambling and power plays and that's all it is."
