Goldfields to get juvenile justice centre

Posted December 2, 2008 12:00:00

Western Australia's second juvenile justice centre will open in the goldfields next month.

Along with Geraldton, the goldfields is the region from which the most young offenders are being sent to the remand centre in Perth.

The new facility will include a bail service to help track down responsible adults to care for juveniles released on bail rather than send them to Perth.

The centre will also have a juvenile justice team working with offenders to stop them from reoffending.

Emergency accommodation will be available for juveniles released on bail when a responsible adult cannot be found to care for them.
