Multi-million dollar Mudgee TAFE revamp planned

Posted December 2, 2008 12:16:00

Tenders are being called for a multi-million dollar upgrade of Mudgee's TAFE campus.

The purpose-built facility will cater for teachers and students in the tourism and hospitality faculty, with a new commercial kitchen, a simulated motel guest room and new bar and cellar facilities.

Kate Baxter from TAFE says the state-of-the-art facilities will help boost enrolments.

"The current facility in Mudgee is fairly old and it's very limited in what we can teach," she said.

"The new facility will mean we'll be able to offer a broader range of courses, we'll certainly be able to offer trade courses within commercial cookery."

Ms Baxter says the new facility will enable the commercial cookery and wine and beverage courses to operate at the same time.

"Previously we have alternated between those student groups," she said.

"With the new facility we'll be able to have those groups training simultaneously.

"We'll also be able to offer a lot more short courses for people who want to gain skills in a very specific area around the tourism and hospitality industry, so we're anticipating that our enrolment numbers will grow in that regard as well."
