MP lodges petitions opposing research station closures

Posted December 2, 2008 12:43:00

Murrumbidgee MP Adrian Piccoli says he has lodged petitions in the New South Wales Parliament opposing the plan to close agricultural research facilities at Temora and Griffith.

Mr Piccoli says he told Parliament the decisions are short-sighted and have been made with money in mind, not the future prosperity of farming.

He says staff at the Griffith Department of Primary Industries (DPI) cover an area from Menindee and Lake Cargelligo to Barellan and Jerilderie and moving them will take them further from the areas they serve.

No date has been set for the DPI closures.

The State Government says the closures will not affect services to farmers.
