Senior Labor Party member, Jim McGinty, says he will not recontest his seat of Fremantle at the next election.

However, Mr McGinty has hosed down speculation he is about to retire from politics.

He says he has no plans to quit during the current parliamentary term.

Mr McGinty, who is the shadow attorney general, has held the seat of Fremantle since 1990.
