Figures show Sun Coast residents live longer

Posted December 2, 2008 14:14:00

Latest figures from the Australian Bureau of Statistics confirm Sunshine Coast residents are expected to live longer than the rest of the Australian population.

Demographer Matthew Montgomery says females can expect to live to 85 years of age and males to 80.

He says Australians can expect to live longer in the future, putting added pressure on the nation's economy and social infrastructure.

"By the middle of the century, men in Australia could have a life expectancy reaching up to around 94 years and females reaching up to around 96 years, so that really does have significant implications for Australia's future population," he said.
