New South Wales police are seeking the extradition of a truck driver from Queensland after a cross-border pursuit in the early hours of this morning.

The prime mover was stopped by police for a logbook check at Clothiers Creek just before 2:00am (AEDT).

When highway patrol officers from the Tweed/Byron local area command found an outstanding warrant on the driver, he allegedly sped away.

Police say the 12-tonne rig reached speeds of more than 135 kilometres per hour at Banora Point.

Officers followed the truck 24 kilometres to the Queensland border, where the chase was taken over by Queensland police.

The driver was eventually arrested 20 kilometres north of the border.

The 33-year-old man from Yamanto, west of Ipswich, was taken to the Southport watch-house.

He is due to appear today at Southport Magistrates Court, but NSW Police will seek his extradition for the outstanding warrant and driving offences.
