India wants terrorism suspects extradited from Pakistan

India is calling on Pakistan to arrest and extradite 20 terrorist suspects as part of the investigation into the Mumbai attacks that killed at least 183 people.

The Pakistani Government is yet to respond to India's demands, but it has offered a joint investigation into the Mumbai attacks.

Pakistan has denied any involvement in the killing and is calling on India to provide any evidence that Pakistani groups were responsible for the Mumbai attacks.

The Indian Government has also ruled out taking military action against Pakistan in response to the attacks.

But Mumbai's police chief Hassan Gafoor says he has hard evidence the gunmen were from Pakistan.

Mr Gafoor says the terrorists all received more than a year of training from army officers, and he has declined to speculate on whether the officers were Pakistani.

Mr Gafoor has admitted police received a warning that hotels such as the Taj Mahal Palace could be attacked by terrorists.

But he has refused to confirm which country or agency provided the alert.

Police say the gunmen sailed out of the Pakistani port city of Karachi and hijacked a fishing trawler before using rubber dinghies to reach the Mumbai shoreline.
