NSW Govt boosts water treatment plant funding

The New South Wales Government has agreed to pay the lion's share of the cost of building a new water treatment plant at Bingara.

The Government usually agrees to pay about 50 per cent of the cost, but the state MP Richard Torbay says it has agreed to pay 67 per cent because of special needs.

Mayor Bob Tremaine says the current water supply can become contaminated with arsenic and other pollutants from nearby old mines.

"There have been many issues with the Bingara water supply, the colour of the water. People had a hell of a job with their washing and all sorts of problems with it. The arsenic problem arises when the dam gets low and they're drawing water from the lower areas," he said.
