North Queensland has snapped up New Zealand Warriors half-back Grant Rovelli on a two-year deal.

The 25-year-old has been on the outer at the Warriors and faced the prospect of being sidelined further with the club recruiting favourite son Stacey Jones and also Joel Moon from the Broncos.

But the Cowboys wanted the Mackay-born product, who has played 68 first-grade games, as an extra option in the halves.

"Grant will give us the depth in the halves we have been looking for," Cowboys general manager of football Dean Lance said.

"After playing in the last two finals series for the Warriors we have no doubt he will be an asset for us.

"We are delighted to have a North Queensland junior returning home."
