Rain further delays harvest

Western Australia's grain handler says harvesting in the great southern has been held up once again after heavy overnight rain.

Richard Simonaitis from CBH says fine weather at the beginning of the week saw grain receivals in Albany jump from 150,000 tonnes to 250,000 in just a few days.

But Mr Simonaitis says rainfall across the eastern boundary of the region has slowed progress and harvest is still behind schedule.

"On paper we're about eight-and-a-half-per cent through, I'd be comfortable if we were 40 to 45 per cent through the harvest at this stage and with the whole zone going at the moment we're only running in three or four areas at full speed," he said.

"We've seen a lot of action in the western, south-western area of the zone at this stage."
