Concerns aired over drought aid probe

Posted December 3, 2008 16:00:00

A south-west Queensland Mayor says he is worried an enquiry into drought assistance will not hear enough first-hand accounts from graziers struggling with drought.

The Productivity Commission is holding a public roundtable in Roma today as part of the Federal Government's enquiry into national drought policy.

Quilpie Mayor David Edwards says he is concerned not many people know about the event.

"If they are going to have a discussion regarding pulling the plug on Exceptional Circumstances, and I think that's sort of their intention, everyone in the rural industry and especially those that are receiving Exceptional Circumstances should have been advised," he said.
