Industrial reforms worry meatworks boss

The head of Cowra's abattoir says the Federal Government's proposed industrial relations reforms could crush some businesses.

The Federal Opposition has vowed to seek to amend the laws, which will dismantle WorkChoices, if they put jobs at risk.

The managing director of Cowra Meat Processors, Chris Cummins, says his abattoir employs about 135 people, who are paid above the industry award.

But he is concerned provisions in the reforms will allow conditions of an enterprise bargaining agreement at one business to be forced on other companies.

"It could see the demise of a lot of businesses," he said.

"Each individual business is different with a different economic structure.

"So what was implemented in one plant, if it went through the board, it might tip over someone else."
