The head of the Winnunga Nimmityjah Aboriginal Health Service in the ACT has told a Federal parliamentary committee more resources are required for carers in the Territory.

The Family and Community Committee is investigating how to better meet the needs of carers who look after people with illness, disability or frailty.

Winnunga Nimmityjah chief executive Julie Tongs has told the committee the centre could provide improved services if their resources were increased.

"For what we actually do, I don't think that we do get the resources that are required to do it effectively," she said.

"Why we're good at what we do is because we have so many committed people who work at Winnunga."
