Choice to run Govt grocery watch site

Australian consumers will be able to look at more weekly supermarket specials on the Government's GROCERYchoice website after a change in management.
The Government has announced the consumer group Choice will take over the website, which is designed to keep consumers up to date with grocery prices.
Since its launch in August, the number of visitors to the website has fallen from 3 million a month to just over 100,000.
The Government's deputy Senate leader, Stephen Conroy, says Choice will be able to give consumers more variety on the website.
"The ACCC as the regulator, was always limited in its ability to provide additional information such as weekly specials," he said.
"That's why we are working hard to deliver to consumers a GROCERYchoice that is as useful and helpful to consumers as possible.
Senator Conroy says Choice is well equipped to run the website.
"Government's decision to proceed with Choice was based on the view that Choice brought a unique expertise not available elsewhere," he said.
"They have a vision for GROCERYchoice and providing the kind of information to consumers that was beyond the capacity of the regulator the ACCC."
