Canadian charged with importing heroin

Posted December 3, 2008 18:09:00

A Canadian man has been charged with importing heroin into Australia.

Customs officers stopped the 36-year-old at Melbourne airport yesterday after he arrived from Ho Chi Minh city in Vietnam.

After being questioned the man was taken to hospital where an X-ray examination showed he was concealing the drugs internally.

The Australian Federal Police (AFP) says he was carrying two packages containing 170 grams of powder.

He will return to court at a later date.
